Not long ago, cinemas were banned in Saudi Arabia, and now it is home to cinemas inspired by surprising spots. We're talking about a secret garden, Tuwaiq's mountain range and the Orient Express – yes, really. Eating and shopping can be hard work, after all. So, after you've filled your stomach with food and your arms with shopping bags, it's time to relax.
So far, Via Riyadh's cinemas can be reserved for private screenings. Visitors can watch the latest blockbusters and order food and drinks from the comfort of their seats. The only cinema that can be booked by the seat is Interstellar. Eat, shop, watch.
Avant Garde
Are you sitting comfortably? At Avant Garde in Via Riyadh, you will definitely be sitting comfortably. In fact, you might as well be lying down, as it has double beds with side tables. With four double beds to choose from, it provides an intimate experience. Note: sleeping is optional.
Interstellar
Interstellar is a 22-seat theatre, which provides the classic blockbuster experience. The cinema comes equipped with state-of-the-art technology, from Dolby Atmos to Onyx screens. Thankfully, the layout is spread out, and you're likely to be sat in twos. Plus, we appreciate the tables, as we don't have to delicately balance popcorn on our lap.
Oasis
Oasis is a family-friendly screen, which looks like a cross between a ball pit, cinema and lounge. Oasis has an oh-so-chilled vibe – sofas and beds, anyone? Plus, once the Dolby Atmos and Onyx screen get going, you'll remember that you came for the movie.
Orient Express
Naming a cinema Orient Express sets the expectation luxuriously high. Judging from the interiors, the screen succeeds. The cinema is inspired by one of the world's most famous trains and combines a vintage design with cutting-edge technology. Relax in one of the train carriage-esque seats or Chesterfield sofas, and get transported by the finesse as well film.
Secret Garden
It's all a little hush-hush at Secret Garden. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and get immersed in the jungle chic atmosphere. We spotted a living wall, potted plants and leafy patterned wallpaper. We love the sofas and seats – reclining, obviously. Plus, the arm and leg rests, and foldable trays and lights make it feel like a fancy first-class lounge.
Tuwaiq
It's time for some armchair travelling. If you've been wanting to take a trip to Saudi Arabia's popular mountain range, Tuwaiq, you can do it from the comfort of your beautiful beige sofa. It comes as no surprise to find that the Tuwaiq cinema is filled with nods to Arabic culture. The space combines a cinema and majlis aesthetic. Take your pick from low beige sofas, which are decorated with red patterned cushions. Plus, the ornate carpets and artwork give it a traditional feel.
Wall Street
Wall Street is named after New York's financial district, and is the most corporate of the Via Riyadh's cinemas screens. The décor includes grey walls, brown cushions and long blue sofas, which are long enough for you to spread out – we're not judging. Plus, there are tables dotted around, so you can put claim your spot.
